Cambodia Active Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh airport our driver will bring you to your hotel for check in. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

Day 2: The Sights of Phnom Penh (B, L)

We begin the day with a visit to the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Then on to the infamous Tuol Sleng museum (S-21). After lunch we visit Choeung Ek (Killing Fields) which is located about 17km southwest of Phnom Penh, and is the best known of the various Killing Field sites in Cambodia.
Our last stop of the day is the Russian market (Psar Tuol Tum Pung), where you can find all manner of treasures.

Day 3: Phnom Penh – Battambang (B, L)

Today begins with a visit to Oudong and a climb up the hill to admire the stupa’s and amazing view of the surrounding flat plains and the distant mountain ranges of the Cardamoms and Elephant Mountains. After lunch in Kampong Chhnang we stop of at the floating village of Kampong Luong to enjoy a local boat ride before continuing our journey to Battambang.

Day 4: Battambang (B, L)

We start the day with a climb to an ancient Angkorian temple on top of Phnom Banan, were you are rewarded with amazing views of the area. Then back down to a magnificent Lotus Pond and the natural caves of Kouhea Preah Teuk that host some Buddha Statues.
We continue from here to Phnom Sampeu where we enjoy lunch before climbing the hill of Sampeu to visit the so called ‘Killing Caves’, pagoda and ancient hill top temple that offers spectacular views.
Perhaps the highlight of the day comes in the form of a picturesque Bamboo train ride through the countryside, before returning to Battambang.

Day 5: Tonle Sap Lake Cruise (B)

After an early breakfast we take the most beautiful boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake. We will enter the Sangkaer River taking in floating villages and through beautiful protected wetlands and narrow waterways. You are able to totally relax as you meander the waterways getting an insight into the lives of the local fishermen, before arriving in Siem Reap.

Day 6: Angkor (B, L)

Today begins with a guided exploration of the magnificent jungle ruins of Angkor, taking in the masterpiece of Angkor Wat to view its architecture and bas reliefs. After lunch we discover Angkor Thom, Bayon, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. We watch the sun set over Angkor Wat from Phnom Bakheng.

Day 7: Siem Reap (B, L)

Today we will go on a half day bicycle tour through the surroundings of Siem Reap. The tour will bring us “off the beaten track” over small dirt roads in between rice fields to villages and pagoda’s. We will make several stops to see the real Cambodian way of life in the countryside.
We have lunch back in Siem Reap. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

Day 9: Sambor Prei Kuk (B, L)

Today we visit the beautiful 6th century Sambor Prei Kuk. A local guide will join us and explian all about the history of the three main temple sites, Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tao and Prasat Yeai Poeun. You can choose to either walk the sites or use a locally rented bicycle to cycle the beautiful jungle paths that link the three main sites. We end the trip with picnic lunch provided by the locals at the Isanborei Crafts hut where several locally produced handicrafts are displayed. We head back towards Kampong Thom and continue our journey to Kampong Cham.

Day 10: Koh Trong Island (B, L)

Today we will leave Kampong Cham and drive to Kratie. After lunch we take a ferry to Koh Trong Island, which is a small island in the middle of the Mekong just opposite Kratie town. We rent bicycles from the local community for our easy and peaceful 9km ride to explore the islands traditional wooden Khmer houses and pagoda’s stopping off several times to taste the delicious and famous island fruits. Then back to Kratie for a stroll along the riverside for a magnificent sunset.

Day 11: Kratie – Banlung (Ratanakiri) (B, L)

On the way to Banlung we will make a stop at O Russey Kandal. A small community based ecotourism site with rapids, and the opportunity to have a swim. We wrap up our visit and transfer to Banlung for a late afternoon lunch. After which we have time to see the beautiful Yaek Lom Lake, a natural lake formed in a volcanic crater.

Day 12: (B, L, D) + Day 13 (B, L): Kalai Jungle Trek

Today we start our 2 day trek were you tribal village life by visiting some of the local farmhouses and families of the Kreung people, were you can get an insight into how they live and the crops that they grow (Depending on the season). For most of the trek you are on old hunting tracks however there are some small river crossings and thicker jungle off the beaten track, so some balance is required.
The campsite is located close to a river and cascading waterfall where you are able to refresh yourself at the end of the day. Dinner will be cooked over a camp fire, before heading off to bed in your specialist hammock to the sounds of the jungle
The trek takes you in a loop back to Kalai village where we drive back to Ban Lung.

Day 14: Banlung – Kratie (B, L)

Today we transfer to Kratie. After lunch we enjoy some free time. You can go for a stroll along the river side where you can witness one of the most magnificent sunsets you can see along the Mekong.

Day 15: Irrawaddy Dolphins (B, L)

We start the day with a trip to the dolphin pool of Kampi, the largest dolphin pool on the Mekong River and the natural habitat of the critically endangered Mekong Dolphin (Irrawaddy Dolphin). Before heading off to Sen Monorom in the Modulkiri province, a traditional fishermen boat will take you on a one hour cruise of the river. We then arrive in Sen Monorom in the late afternoon.

Day 16: Elephant Treking (B, L)

Today we enjoy a fabulous day and go on an elephant ride over the plains and through the jungle. You have the opportunity to wash and feed the elephants and enjoy a picnic lunch and swim in the stream before the elephant brings us back to the village. We then should have time before sunset to walk up to Phnom Dak Reimon to admire what the locals call the ‘Sea Forest’ the endless hills and trees surrounding Sen Monorom.

Day 17: Bou Sraa Waterfall (B, L)

We start the day on a 20km mountain bike ride towards Romnear 1 waterfall, once off the main road we cycle through some fabulous scenery and stunning views. Once at the waterfall you can enjoy some free time and relax with a swim in the amazing pools and have lunch in one of the wooden huts along the river. We head back to town by car and onwards to Bou Sraa, Cambodia’s largest waterfall. An absolutely astonishing sight were during the dry season we will be able to enjoy a swim in the pools at the bottom of the falls, before heading back to Sen Monorom in the late afternoon.

Day 18: Mondulkiri – Phnom Penh (B, L)
Today we have a long drive ahead of us back to Phnom Penh. We will however be able to stop several times to stretch our legs and to take pictures. We will have lunch in a local restaurant along the way.

Today is free at leisure.

Day 20: Cardamom Mountains (B, L)

Today we have a long but beautiful drive ahead of us to Koh Kong through the Cardamon Mountains.
Before arriving in Koh Kong we visit Ta Tai Waterfalls, located on the Ta Tai River that flows straight from the Cardamom Mountains into the Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary and afterwards ends up in the Gulf of Thailand.

Day 21: Mangroves and Koh Pao River (B, L)

We start our day Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary considered to be one of the most beautiful mangrove coastal ecosystems in Southeast Asia. We take a boat cruise through the mangroves before heading back to Koh Kong. After lunch we take a boat up the Koh Pao River through green forest and pristine jungle before arriving at the rapids and falls where we have time to relax before heading back to town.

Day 22: Chipat (B, L, D)

Today we take a boat trip upstream to the remote Chiphat community in the Cardamom Mountains.
At Chiphat we will meet our community guide and can wander around the village before enjoying lunch. After lunch a short mountain bike trip leads to the waterfalls just north of Chiphat, were we can admire the falls and enjoy a relaxing swim. We head back to Chiphat were a basic shower will make you feel fresh again. The community has prepares dinner for us, before a quiet and early night.

Day 23: Chiphat – Sihanoukville (B)

In the morning we take the boat back to the main road where our car and driver awaits us and we leave for Sihanoukville, check in to our hotel and have the rest of the day to relax and enjoy as you wish.

Day 24: Ream National Park (B, L)

We depart for the Ream National park and take a short trek and boat tour through the Mangrove forest. The park includes beaches, mangrove swamps, tropical forests, and many different animal and bird species including monkeys, eagles, and porpoises.  During December to February, you may also see the freshwater white dolphin. We enjoy a picnic lunch along the way and in the late afternoon we head back to Sihanoukville.

Day 25: Kampot (B, L)

Today we head to the river side town Kampot and strolling around this relaxing colonial town admiring what is left of the French colonial architecture, with the beautiful backdrop of the Bokor mountain range. After lunch we are taken by boat up the Kampong Bai River towards Tuek Chhou and the Dangrei Mountains. We finish the day by learning some techniques from the local fishermen before catch the sunset on the way back to Kampot.

Day 26: Kep (B, L)

We start the day with a visit the famous Kampot Pepper Plantations before arriving at the small fishing village of Kep, a true retreat for travellers. We take a short boat ride to Rabbit Island were we can swim, snorkel or just relax on the wonderful beach. After lunch we take the boat back to Kep for a nice 3 hour trek to surrounding hills overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, were we enjoy sunset before heading back to town.

Today is free at leisure.

Day 28: Kep - Phnom Penh Airport (B)

Today is free at leisure until your transfer to Phnom Penh airport.
