Itinerary:
Day 1: Phnom Penh Phnom Pros & Srei Koh Trong
Kratie (L)
We leave Phnom Penh at 8am, stopping off at Phnom Srei and Phnom
Pros in Kampong Cham before continuing on to Kratie. After lunch we
take a ferry to Koh Trong Island, which is a small island in the
middle of the Mekong just opposite Kratie town. We rent bicycles
from the local community for our easy and peaceful 9km ride to
explore the islands traditional wooden Khmer houses and pagodas
stopping off several times to taste the delicious and famous island
fruits. Then back to Kratie for a stroll along the riverside for a
magnificent sunset.
Day 2: Kratie O Russey Kandal Banlung
Katieng Waterfall (B, L)
On the way to Banlung we will make a stop at O Russey Kandal. A
small community based ecotourism site with rapids, and the
opportunity to have a swim. We continue our journey to Banlung in
the Ratanakiri province and enjoy lunch before our afternoon
elephant ride through the forest to the fabulous Katieng Waterfall.
You have the opportunity to wash and feed the elephants and also
have time for a swim before returning back to town.
Day 3: Yaek Lom Lake Ta Veng (B, L, D)
We start the day by spending sometime at the beautiful Yaek Lom
Lake, a natural lake formed in a volcanic crater. After which we
drive to the tribal villages north of Ban Lung. On the way we pass
the ancient lava fields and visit the tribal village of La Ork, Kala
and Kress, where we can explore and learn from the local hill tribe
people. Dinner is prepared for us by the local villagers of Ta Veng
and this is where we sleep in a basic local home stay, set up by our
guide.
Day 4: Tumpoun Cemeteries and Chaong Waterfall (B,
L)
After breakfast a boat takes us to the tribal cemeteries of Tumpoun
that can only be found in the Ratanakiri province. We then head
downstream towards an ethnic Chinese and Lao village so you can
learn more about the ethnicity of these two minority groups. After
enjoying lunch at Voen Sai our 4Χ4 awaits to take us onto the
beautiful 14m high Chaong waterfall that you can actually get
behind, before returning to Ban Lung.
Day 5: Kratie Phnom Hanchey Wat Nokor
Kampong Cham (B, L)
Today we leave for Kratie. After lunch at a restaurant on the
riverside, we continue our journey to Kampong Cham and on the way if
time permits we will visit the 8th century hillside pagoda of Wat
Hanchey and the 11th century temple of Wat Nokor.
Day 6: Phnom Penh (B)
We return to Phnom Penh.
